NEW COMPANY, CHAIRED BY STEPHEN BYERS TO BUILD NEW SCHOOLS AND OFFER MILLIONS OF CHILDREN IN AFRICA SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION
London UK, 1 October 2008 – Piscari EcoBuild has been formed to provide large scale, sustainable education for millions of children across Africa, whilst simultaneously supporting major corporations worldwide to meet their corporate, social responsibilities. It will achieve this by bringing together two key elements. Building new schools using a high quality, carbon efficient panel structure that qualifies for Certified Emission Reductions. Then, following construction, Piscari Ecobuild will staff the schools and provide a 3 year programme of high quality teacher training, leadership training and curriculum support to ensure sustainability.
Piscari EcoBuild is approaching governments in Africa to provide sites for new schools and a pledge to meet the base funding for teachers, support staff and pupil materials. In tandem, the company is also inviting private and public companies to sponsor its school projects by financing the construction costs and programme of education services. Sponsors will benefit from supporting their corporate social responsibility, getting branding and PR opportunities associated to the 2010 World Cup and will receive carbon emission reductions.
“There are currently 33 million children in Africa with no school to go. Piscari EcoBuild has put together an internationally recognised team that is well positioned to influence governments and corporate sponsors to participate, and has the skills and experience to deliver high quality schools and education. We are confident that we will rapidly reduce this statistic and support the Prime Minister's commitment to get both millions of African children into education and make an impact on world poverty.” Stephen Byers, Chairman and Director, Piscari EcoBuild.
Because Piscari EcoBuild’s method of construction is low cost, environmentally responsible and quick to put up, it is very suitable for other large scale projects. Therefore, in addition to building schools in Africa, Piscari EcoBuild will also be constructing new housing and healthcare facilities in Africa and other developing countries.
Stephen Byers' co-directors at Piscari EcoBuild are CEO, Robert Hancock, whose diverse background includes being Chief Executive for Global Educational Management Services (GEMS), Director for Mott MacDonald, Director of Operations for Scope, an Ofsted Inspector and headteacher. And Mike Lander, Commercial Director for Piscari EcoBuild who has extensive experience in the service industry having bought a consulting firm and developed it into a group of services companies and previously held senior roles with KPMG and Barclays Bank.
