Leadership & Management Training

All of the evidence from Ofsted, research and from our own direct experience tells us that sustained improvement depends on:

  • Strong, focused leadership that has the courage to evaluate provision and be honest about what needs to be done and to hold itself and others to account
  • High expectations and a culture that consistently promotes and models the school’s values
  • An inclusive approach that looks at the needs of individuals and groups of pupils, and involves and empowers all stakeholders, including staff, parents and pupils, in the process of school improvement
  • The systematic and consistent implementation of new initiatives, some of which may be creative and innovative, and rigorous monitoring and evaluation of their impact

Recent research from NCSL on emerging patterns of school leadership emphasise the importance of: school context; increase in collaboration with a range of partners; greater delegation and wider role for other members of the senior management team. Another key finding was the use of a combination of traditional and innovative leadership approaches but that successful leaders retain a focus on teaching and learning.

Piscari’s support for leadership and management will reflect this latest research, and can be personalised and tailored to the needs, context and challenges facing you.  We will allocate an experienced consultant with successful headship and advisory/ inspection experience to work with you as your leadership coach.

He/she will work with the:

  • Headteacher and/or
  • Senior management team and/or
  • Governing body

We can provide training in most aspects of leadership and management at different levels in an organisation. The training involves interactive, lively sessions that draw on best practice and current thinking about how we learn, and include a range of visual, kinaesthetic and auditory learning styles.

We can offer one-off training sessions as well as approaches that span several months and combine face-to-face training with distance learning and assignments in a participant’s own place of work.

Our approach will begin with a thorough review of all available information about the school and the way it is led and managed, including performance data, inspection reports, self-evaluation and school improvement plans. The consultant will act as coach and mentor to the school leader(s) and will model good practice at all times.  He/she will work with you to focus on what needs to improve and to help with any changes in management styles and approaches that might be necessary.  Depending on your needs, the support could involve:

  • Running accredited middle and senior management leadership programmes
  • Helping to establish links with a successful school and/or peer mentoring with a successful headteacher or management team working in a similar context
  • Acting as a facilitator for change management and remodelling processes
  • Help with the review /development of management structures, school policies and improvement plan
  • Help with self-evaluation, through, for example, joint observations of lessons and scrutiny of pupils’ work
  • Helping the leadership team to critically review and challenge their practice, drawing upon research and best practice
  • Helping review and refine performance management
  • Helping to work towards the Investors in People standard
